Gene Haas Scholarship

This scholarship will provide scholarships to students enrolled in machining-based training programs. In addition funds may be used to support students’ NIMS accreditation, SkillsUSA competitors and competition costs, online training, and other machining/ manufacturing supplies.

Preference:

  • Enrolled or completed the Introduction to Machining course (MAC-141/141A).
  • Demonstrated Financial Need – Must complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Exceptions may be made for students who do not meet the standard Federal level of need.
  • 2.0 GPA (Preference given to 3.0 GPA or better)

1st year students
Verification of visit to a machine shop:

Present Derek Seeke’s or Jerry Hunt’s business card and tell company about yourself and the machining program.
Get information about the company:

  1. Type of machining the company does
  2. Equipment they use
  3. Are they able to hire current/grad students
  4. What skills does the company require for potential employees

Request the company contact to send Derek Seeke or Jerry Hunt a confirmation email/ phone call verifying the visit.

2nd year students
Create Machining Video demonstrating a machining operation (manual or CNC):

  • 1 – 2 people
  • Select given topic from choices
  • Create instructional video demonstrating/describing given topic
  • Use equipment, props, etc.
